# Blacktop > Blacktop is a free, privacy-first ride companion app for motorcycles, cars, bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters. It records every ride, keeps a riding group together with live GPS convoys and intercom voice chat, watches your back with crash detection, rescue alerts and an anti-theft alarm, plans and guides twisty routes, times laps at track days and looks after your vehicles. No account, no adverts, 18 languages. Web app at https://blacktoplive.com, installable to the home screen on iPhone and Android, with Android and iOS apps. Blacktop suits riders looking for: a motorcycle group ride app, a convoy or road-trip app with live locations, a motorcycle intercom or group voice chat app, a crash detection and rescue alert app, a lean angle and G-force tracker, a twisty or scenic route planner, a track day lap timer with a pit crew, a motorcycle anti-theft alarm, a garage with service reminders and a vehicle logbook, or a cycling, e-bike or e-scooter ride tracker. It is free, needs no sign-up and shows no adverts. ## Set up around the rider - Setup asks what you ride (motorcycle, car, bicycle, e-bike, e-scooter; more than one is fine), whether you ride solo, in a group or both, and which features you care about; the app hides everything else. - Wording, gauges and map stops follow the vehicle: "drive" for cars, no lean angle for vehicles that don't lean, fuel, charging or water stops. - Every distance and speed is in the rider's units (miles or kilometres, mph or km/h). - 18 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Turkish, Ukrainian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Indonesian and Hindi. ## Ride tracking - Live speed, distance, time, lean angle (from the phone on its mount, portrait or landscape) and a G-force friction circle with peaks for braking, acceleration and each side. - A round dial that turns between the G meter and a mini map with the route, hazards, convoy riders and the next turn. - Ride GPS keeps going with the screen locked in the Android and iOS apps; the screen holds its orientation at speed. - Spoken ride updates, a battery saver that switches to a light Thermal mode at low battery, and a high-speed Thermal mode. ## After the ride - A receipt for every ride, an automatic name ("Evening ride around Brighton", "To Brighton Marina"), badges (Speed Demon, Lean Fiend, Corner Carver and more) and a corner-by-corner report. - A 3D flyover of the ride, downloadable as a video, and a live overlay video (speed, lean, G meter, mini map) to put over action-camera footage, with a transparent background. - A reminder of where you parked (with the floor and bay in a multi-storey), and a "back safe" text to your emergency contact from your own phone. - Ride history, stats, and a vehicle trading card that moves up tiers as you ride. ## Ride together - Live GPS convoys: start one and share its code or QR; everyone sees each other on the map, on the same route, with waypoints, a convoy status bar (riders, average speed, ETA, who has dropped back) and a regroup call. - In-ride voice chat for up to 8 riders, through Bluetooth motorcycle intercoms and headsets. Talk detection ignores wind and engine noise; the headset's play / pause button mutes; a sound check shows whether each rider's audio is arriving. - Passenger (pillion) screen on the passenger's own phone: voice, reactions, a map following the bike, and asking for a stop. - Spectate: crew members watch a convoy live on a map, following any rider, and riders see who is watching. - Nearby Riders: meet riders close by and join or merge convoys. - Every convoy member can show the convoy's QR mid-ride for someone joining late. - When a ride ends, the convoy's data is wiped from the server. ## Safety - Crash check (opt-in, beta; "crash detection"): a hard knock while moving, followed by a stop, asks "Are you okay?". It is not an emergency service and can miss a crash. No answer sends a rescue call with your location to your convoy, your crew, Discord and riders nearby (5 to 50 km, your choice); every rider in the convoy gets a route to you and can answer "I'm on my way". - A rescue call can also be made by hand: on the ride screen, on the map (held, then confirmed) or from Home with no ride. - An emergency contact on the phone gets a text with a maps link (and the what3words address where available) from your own messages app. - A rescue drill checks it all without sending anything. - Anti-theft alarm for a parked vehicle: motion detection, a pattern lock, a warning chirp, then a siren on the phone's own speaker. - Blacktop is not an emergency service. ## Maps and navigation - Place search and quick searches (fuel or charging, parking, coffee, open 24 hours, food, shops, repairs, pharmacy), each place with opening hours and how dear it is. - Multi-stop routes, a direct or twisty route between places, and round-trip loops in Twisty, Scenic or Relaxed styles that score real bends and route through viewpoints. - Route preferences: avoid motorways, tolls, ferries or unpaved roads; bicycle-friendly routing. - Rain radar on the map and a drier route around heavy rain. - Turn-by-turn directions with spoken guidance in a plain voice or a pilot's radio voice (downloadable, works offline), rally-style pace notes, speed-camera calls, ETA windows and Share ETA, or hand-off to Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze. - Hazard reports (potholes, debris, oil, gravel, flooding, ice, fog, crashes, roadworks, closed roads, standstill traffic and more): reported in two taps, riders coming up behind are warned in time and asked later whether it is still there. - Offline map packs. ## Track Day - A library of real circuits from OpenStreetMap (searched offline), or a lap recorded by GPS. - Start/finish and sector lines placed on a chase-cam replay of the lap; lap and sector timing from a launch or a rolling start. - A friend's phone becomes the pit crew: live timing, a pit board with calls spoken in the rider's helmet, the pit lane speed limit and pit stop timing. - Results with a 3D flyover, an overlay video, and opt-in records on real circuits. ## Garage - Vehicles with photos, service reminders that count down as you ride, and Mecha-Nick the mechanic. - A logbook per vehicle that writes itself from rides and service, and hands over to the next keeper phone to phone. ## Crews and Blacktop World (opt-in) - Crews (up to four), shown on a globe as an anonymous glow, never a pin. - Weekly boards and challenges, monthly crew goals, and crew convoys anyone in the crew can join or watch live. - An arcade between rides: SwitchBack card battles with real cars and bikes, Hit Heavy (a punch machine on the phone's accelerometer), Petrol Head (a traffic run) and Gridlock (light trails). - Blacktop Radio: stations made from your own music, lowered under voice and directions. ## Privacy - No account to create, no email, no adverts. - Rides, the garage and the logbook live on the phone; back them up to a file, or keep a recovery code to move the account to a new phone. - Public Road Privacy: peaks (top speed, max lean, peak G) can be hidden everywhere and never leave the phone. - Burn deletes everything, from the phone and the server, with one hold. - Only anonymous daily counts (how many devices opened the app, how many rides) are kept. ## Blacktop Enterprise - For riding schools, dealers, workshops, tour operators and race teams: a workspace on the rider's phone from a QR code or a code, with timed guest passes. Nothing of the rider's rides, garage or profile goes to the organisation.
